Reflecting on your own journey in the industry, how has your relationship with GlobeWest evolved over the years?

I arrived on these shores way back in early 2008 so not too long after GlobeWest was born. I’d been an interior stylist in London, working on interior magazines but it was in Melbourne that I went freelance.

I used to style for a homewares feature in The Sunday Age called ‘Savvy Shopper’ which ran for about 8 years and it was through that that I first came into contact with GlobeWest. I was still finding my feet in Melbourne, learning about the interiors industry here, who the main furniture brands were and who I could borrow furniture from for shoots. GlobeWest popped up on my radar and our relationship has grown from strength to strength. I went from the stylist who was forever borrowing furniture for editorial shoots to being invited to style for GlobeWest themselves. It was a real pinch me moment. The Melbourne styling scene is hard to crack and GlobeWest were one of my first commercial clients, something I will forever be grateful for.

It’s been a wonderful journey to go on with the team, from the early days of shooting in the showroom to the now large-scale location productions we do. Having a small part to play in the brands evolution has a been such a privilege. My own career has been evolving recently too and alongside styling I’ve become more involved in residential and commercial design work and GlobeWest are always on top of my supplier list. I’ve gone from borrowing, to styling, to specifying!

In your experience, how do you perceive GlobeWest in the industry?

GlobeWest is a much-coveted high-end lifestyle brand. It’s a go-to for great quality, design led furniture and accessories. The showroom is stunning and displays key seasonal releases alongside core furniture pieces. From contemporary to timeless the range is expansive yet effortlessly combines under the overarching GlobeWest aesthetic. You know the quality of the furniture is going to be really good. The fabrics on sofas and armchairs are tactile yet durable and come in beautiful colours. Something I know the team works hard at selecting.  The quality of the rugs are always outstanding and GlobeWest marble pieces are a must-have.

When thinking about our product range, how have you seen it evolve over the years?

The product range has evolved with a quality and design-led focus. Versatility has played a key role too. In the early years sofa’s or armchairs for example would only be available in a small selection of finishes but now certain ranges can be upholstered in a wide variety of fabrics allowing for a more bespoke look. I’m fortunate to get a sneak peek on the upcoming releases when we shoot the new collections and I’m endlessly asking the team questions about what size things are and what colours they come in, ready to specify them for my next project! It’s always very exciting to see what they’ve been working on and what direction the collections are going in.

Do you have a favourite shoot you’ve been a part of and why?

The location shoots are always a favourite of mine. It’s such a privilege to be able to spend the day in a beautiful house. It amazes me every year how the GlobeWest team find such stunning houses to shoot in for the day, it’s not an easy task. I’ve normally only seen photos of the locations before the shoot so when I arrive we have a walk through and discuss the shot list, the direction the sun is moving and ‘is it going to rain’! Although the team have mapped out where and when things are going to be shot, we have to be flexible which keeps everyone on their toes. It’s always fun when the shot list gets shuffled because of the weather and the furniture piece we want next is at the back of the truck!

Location shoots especially are a real team effort, you only have a day and we have to bump in and out extremely quickly. There is a real camaraderie amongst the team which is such a pleasure to be a part of. Seeing the fruits of our labour in printed form when the catalogue arrives is another favourite moment. It’s always exciting to see which image has made the front cover and flick through the pages remembering the different locations and shoots.
