Product Care

Metal - Outdoor

How to care for your Metal Outdoor Furniture.

General Care

  • Regularly remove dirt, dust & debris with a dry, soft cloth.
  • Clean spills immediately. Wipe down & remove the spill using a clean microfibre or non-abrasive cloth. If needed, wash the surface with warm water and a diluted, mild detergent. Dry thoroughly with a clean, soft cloth.
  • Use coasters, placemats, trivets, tablecloths and table runners to protect the surface from heat, stains and objects with abrasive finishes.
  • Do not use hard-bristled brushes, high pressure hoses or abrasive chemicals when cleaning.
  • Sharp items such as pens and keys should be removed from pockets and not come in contact with metal furniture. Contact with sharp or abrasive objects can scratch the finish and compromise the weather resistance, resulting rust and corrosion.
  • Avoid letting water stand on the surface of metal furntiure. Tilt furniture when not in use to allow water to drain and furniture to dry completely.

Focused Care

Along with general care and maintenance guidelines, different metals have unique characteristics and care requirements that should be considered. Please follow these additional guidelines to ensure the longevity of your outdoor metal furniture.

Aluminium
  • Do not use ammonia-based cleaners on Aluminium as this can cause oxidisation and discolouration.
  • Aluminium furniture may rust if the finish is broken or scratched.
  • If your furniture is installed in a coastal or seaside environment, we recommend weekly cleaning to remove salt deposits.
Galvanised Steel & Iron
  • Galvanised steel has undergone a treatment process that makes it more durable against corrosion in outdoor environments. Take care to protect both steel & iron furniture from abrasions & damage as it will still rust if the finish is broken or scratched.
  • Surface irregularities, such as small bumps and surface coarseness may be apparent and are an expeted characteristic of powdercoated steel & iron finishes.
  • If your galvanised steel furniture is installed in a coastal or seaside environment, we recommend weekly cleaning to remove salt deposits.
  • Iron is sensitive to highly saline environments and is not recommended for coastal/seaside installation.

Important Considerations

  • Speak with your Designer to ensure the products selected are suitable for your specific environment as well as discuss the level of maintenance that will be needed.
  • Your outdoor furniture may require different levels of care depending on the environment in which it is used. In general, monthly cleaning and maintenance of your outdoor furniture is recommended to help prevent damage.
  • As coastal/seaside environments may accelerate development of natural salt deposits and deterioration of your outdoor furniture, it is important to consider that products used in these locations will require frequent maintenance.
  • Consider storing your outdoor furniture under cover during the off-season or extreme weather to avoid preventable damage and deterioration. To store, clean the product thoroughly and let it dry completely. Store in a dry, cool place away from direct sunlight. Do not store in humid or high moisture environments.
