With a love for interiors and family, Christine and Fifi have created a space that is both calming and welcoming. Specialising in décor, interior and lifestyle furniture, they have a mutual desire to help their customers create functional and beautiful homes.

We caught up with Christine and Fifi below to find out more about their store, business journey and passion for the interiors industry.

Tell us about your business – as it is now, and your business journey:

Our philosophy is simple, live simply, live beautifully.

At Ikos Home we are inspired by the Mediterranean way of living and how the beauty of functional pieces can evoke a sense of calm & purpose in our homes and our everyday lives.

IKOS an Ancient Greek word meaning family & home was the perfect name for our store encompassing our heritage and family ties. IKOS was launched in June 2021 (amidst the challenging time of COVID & lockdowns) by Christine Paterson & Fifi Giannaris. Sister-in-laws sharing their love of the Mediterranean and combining their different business strengths & passions to opening a lifestyle homeware store in Hampton, VIC.

What’s your professional background? Specifically, how has it influenced your business?

Christine:

Passion for the creative process whether in design, interiors, fashion & music go way back to my early years! Whether I was constantly rearranging my parents’ home (something they grew accustom too), purchasing every interior magazine l could get my hands on, designing an outfit, recording a song or styling friends bedrooms were constants in my life. At 19 years old, l landed a position at ABC TV working on shows including Rock Arena, Countdown & TV Publicity. In the mid 90’s l pivoted into the music industry working for Sony Music, Richard Branson’s V2 Records & Dainty Consolidated. However, my passion for interiors was always put to work designing and styling extraordinary showcases and events for artists like Mariah Carey, Celine Dion, Michael Jackson, JLO and even personal shopping trips with Harry Connick Jr, Jay Kay from Jamiroquai, N’Dea Davenport, just to name a few. My love for interiors, fashion & music were and are still to this day equally explored & nurtured!

Trends in interiors, fashion, art & music go hand in hand and as our lives changed dramatically over last few years, our way of living has shifted as well. This simplicity for living united our ideas and IKOS was born…

Fifi:

Whilst raising my family, I spent many years in the ‘business’ world. Planning, organising, staffing, leading, directing and coordinating were a huge part of my every day, as was learning and applying various IT skills. This industry knowledge and experience is an asset I bring to Ikos Home in the ‘behind the scenes’ kind of way.

I have a passion for travel and a passion for creating memories – whether it be through my writing, my photographs or filling my home with beautiful pieces, decorating my home has become a continuous process and journey of telling my story, my family’s story. I believe our space reflects who we are, and nothing gives me more pleasure than using my passion to inspire others to tell their story through beautiful pieces and through Ikos Home.

We love your fresh take on the interiors. What are your tips to help create a coastal style with furniture, art and other elements?

To achieve a coastal style interior, natural materials are really important. Timber, rattan, hemp, linen and stone help to create a coastal aesthetic.
Keep your styling and furniture simple and relaxed. Layer light, white, grey and washed out tones.

Choose decor that reflects the environment, embracing coastal elements such as shells, pampas grass and natives.

We couldn’t pick a favourite room ourselves, but did you have a particular space you enjoyed working on the most?

I was most excited to style the living room as it was begging for a makeover! It was all about creating a cosy living zone that was homey and modern at the same time. However I would say that I probably spend most of my time outside sitting on the Wilomena sofa, that’s my favourite place to be when the sun is shining.

How does a typical day for you unfold?

Coffee coffee coffee!!

After we both arrive in store, we debrief the day always with a coffee in hand, discuss upcoming projects, inhouse styling, client requests and we open our doors to welcome in our lovely customers! Everyday has a twist and turn which keeps the energy of the store always fun and exciting! Our days may include anything from showroom visits, client meetings, sourcing new collections and most importantly liaising with our lovely Ikos customers.

What’s next for ikos home and Christine Paterson Interiors?

With borders finally opening up we are looking forward to travelling overseas to introduce new pieces, new designers from Europe/Greece to complement our existing Australian collections and to introduce a new and exciting extension to ikos home.

Our design team is currently completing a beautiful new build in Toorak and Mount Waverly, and have just commenced work on a spectacular farmhouse in Shoreham. We are also loving combining our styling services for all the beautiful clients coming through Ikos Home.
