Designer in Profile | Huntress & Hound
Co-founders Sarah-Jane and Laura started Interior Design Studio Huntress & Hound through great appreciation, passion and excitement for the design world.
With a combined 20 years’ experience, they work across residential, commercial and hospitality projects within Australia.
The relationship between Huntress & Hound and GlobeWest began just over five years ago. A mutual passion & love for diverse interiors and high-quality furniture has led the team to create some beautiful spaces featuring GlobeWest.
We caught up with Sarah-Jane and Laura to discuss their professional backgrounds & business ventures. Plus, they share their top styling tips for a retreat aesthetic!

What’s your professional background and how has it influenced your work today?
Huntress & Hound is founded on a love and appreciation for the creative culture of art and design. Laura and I have always felt drawn to the exploration of “Space” and what that represents to each individual.
Whilst our professional backgrounds vary from a degree in architecture and fine arts – the common thread that is interwoven throughout our work is built on the foundation of a creative culture that celebrates diversity, a love for design and the continual expansion of knowledge.
With a combined 20 years in the industry working globally and Australia-wide across multi-residential, residential, commercial and hospitality, we have found our niche along the sunshine coast and in Byron Bay. The diverse skill sets of our team enable us to take on a broad range of projects from initial briefing to handover.

Are interiors your obsession as well as your profession?
As designers, so much of what we do intersects with other creative fields. Music, the arts, and fashion all have a shared link with the world of interiors and for this reason, it becomes almost impossible to switch off the side of you that’s always curiously exploring textures, textiles, colours, materials, detailing and dimension. It’s very much a subconscious way of life for us as we find so much joy in sharing our inspirations amongst the team and each other.
Who or what inspires you and your design style?
Most of our inspiration comes from travel. New places, cultures, and architecture. We love exploring how different countries use different building materials and colour palettes, but mostly it's the feeling of being in a new place and discovering a point of difference.
As insignificant as the faded colour of a door, the low lighting of a cafe, or hushed conversations in a different language. What excites the soul is what excites the passion and inspiration in our work.
As we continue to grow our team and our culture, we are constantly inspired by the younger generation of designers who bring fresh insight and knowledge to the industry, and we love to encourage this growth across all levels our professional abilities through constantly evolving, and being absolute sponges for knowledge!

What’s your favourite GlobeWest piece/collection and why?
We are a huge fan of the Haven outdoor setting - in fact, it’s become our go-to for the perfect resort-style outdoor lounge. Its low profile and versatile design configuration means that it creates a really beautiful addition to any outdoor space, our clients love this sofa!
A close second is the Benjamin Ripple range - the rippled effect adds a lovely textural element and the three finishes allow us the flexibility to incorporate this range into any interior.

What’s your dream project?
Usually, the jobs where the client says… “ok, I have this wild idea“. We love to do things differently and don’t shy away from a challenge, also anything that involves creative collaboration between architects, builders, designers, and trades. It's such an invigorating and inspiring thing to be involved in a project where you can explore new ways of thinking.
What’s next for Huntress and Hound?
We are excited to share that we will be opening our design studio space L’air studio in July 2022- which will not only offer a truly unique design experience to our clients but encourage creativity, welcome community, and promote ethical brands through a collaborative workspace. This has been such a labour of love for us, and we are so excited to continue to share our passion for design with other creatives in the industry and community.
We also have some incredible new projects across Australia within the residential, renovation and commercial sectors working with the brand Kivari again on their second store has been a highlight. We like to keep busy and have so much in store for the future of H&H! so stay tuned ;)
