Sunday Society - Caprina Holiday Apartment

Feb 17, 2025

Welcome to Caprina, a one-of-a-kind beachfront holiday apartment tucked away in the serene beauty of Queensland’s Sunshine Coast. More than just a getaway, Caprina is a thoughtfully designed retreat where every detail has been carefully curated to blend style with practicality.

Can you tell us about the accommodation project and what inspired the overall
design of Caprina?

Caprina was born out of a deep desire to create a sanctuary—a place where families and friends could come together to unwind, recharge, and make lasting memories.

Nestled in the heart of Caloundra, we wanted the design and colour palette to reflect the natural beauty of the coastal landscape while offering a functional, sophisticated, yet relaxed atmosphere.

Our vision was to put a new twist on “coastal design”. We wanted each room to have its own personality, so we played with “colour drenching” to make the apartment feel calm yet fun.

What were the key aesthetic and design elements for this project, and how did
GlobeWest help address them?

The main aesthetic goal for Caprina was to take people on a journey. Key design elements included a light and airy colour palette, natural textures, and a minimalist approach to décor.

GlobeWest played a crucial role by providing furniture that aligned with our vision; the pieces we selected exude comfort and style. Their large range gave us multiple options to integrate  functionality with a chic design, all while being durable enough to withstand everyday holiday beach life.

What’s your favourite GlobeWest piece in Caprina and why?

We absolutely love the Juno Sierra Modular Sofa! Designed by the in-house team in Melbourne, the comfort level is A+. After a busy Summer filled with guests, it still looks brand new. The soft curves make it feel homely and inviting and the textured warm-colour fabric is the perfect palette for Caprina. A modular sofa is an excellent option for apartment living, as it can easily fit into the tight lifts of unit complexes.

What made you choose the specific pieces of GlobeWest furniture for this project?

Every piece was chosen with intention. We wanted furniture that could anchor each room while allowing the light-filled, coastal environment to shine.

The GlobeWest range offered such versatility and durability - beautiful sofas that invite you to curl up with a book or an afternoon nap, dining chairs that encourage long, fun-filled dinners, and occasional chairs that double as statement pieces. Each item felt as though it was designed specifically for Caprina.

How do you balance functionality and style when selecting furniture for high-traffic areas like accommodation?

Balancing style with functionality is always at the forefront of our decision-making when selecting for our projects. In accommodation spaces, furniture needs to withstand constant use while still making guests feel comfortable.

GlobeWest’s reputation for craftsmanship and durability gave us confidence when choosing pieces that not only look stunning but can also stand up to the demands of a busy rental. It’s about creating that feeling of “home,” but elevated - where every touchpoint is considered and every seat feels like a place to linger.

What areas of the project are you most proud of?

There’s a particular magic when you see people walk through the door and immediately get excited to see something different. We’re really happy with the flow and feel of Caprina. By redesigning the floor plan, we created more storage and also space in the living and second bedroom. We’re proud to have used every inch of the apartment by carefully rethinking the original floor plan.

What are your top 3 tips for renovating?

1. Trust your vision, but be flexible. Renovations rarely go exactly to plan—be open to pivoting when needed.

2. Quality over quantity. Investing in timeless, high-quality furniture pays off in both aesthetics and longevity.

3. Design for the feeling you want to create. Spaces are more than how they look - they’re about how they make people feel. Focus on creating comfort, warmth, and connection.
