At Home with Patrick Dangerfield

At Home with Patrick Dangerfield

Nov 17, 2022

AFL footballer Patrick Dangerfield and his wife, Occupational Therapist, Mardi Dangerfield, have spent the last 18 months, designing, building and styling their forever family home. The new build is located just off the Great Ocean Road highlighting panoramic ocean views and striking architectural features.

The couple joined forces with Interior Designers and Stylists from Hygge:Liv to style and furnish the family home, while complementing the beautiful property and its surroundings.

We caught up with Erin Hughes the Co-founder of Hygge:Liv and Patrick Dangerfield to discuss the new build and all things styling.

Tell us a bit about the project, and how you came to work with Patty Dangerfield

Patty Dangerfield is a Moggs Creek local, his family has lived in the small coastal town for years. Cath my co-founder of Hygge:liv is also from Moggs Creek and my husband’s family has lived in the neighbouring town Fairhaven for years. We connected with Patty when working on another local project, so, we have known his family for years. We instantly hit it off with Patty and Mardi from the beginning and right through to the completion of the project.

Patty and Mardi contracted Hygge:liv towards the end of the build, appointing us to help with the finishing touches through styling and bringing the build and furnishings altogether. The project started with visiting the beautiful property and working with them to source pieces that reflected their style whilst accommodating and creating a family home.

Tell us a bit about the design brief you received from Patty Dangerfield?

We were appointed once build was at end of completion. The design brief Patty presented us with was to help put the finishing touches on the beautiful property by bringing everything together. Patty is really passionate about interiors and has a really clear idea about his style and what he likes, which made the brief and project clear from beginning until the end.

The brief was all about less is more and taking a minimalist approach. Quality and classic pieces were also part of the brief; however, Patty was never afraid to select pieces that were original and unique. He has an appreciation for creativity and art.

Can you tell us a bit about the space and layout of Patty’s home?

The house is two story, boasting with amazing ocean views.

Downstairs features Patty’s office, Flic and Georges bedrooms, a grandparent’s retreat, a large bathroom, laundry and rumpus room. Upstairs has an incredible kitchen and butler’s pantry, dining area, two spacious living rooms divided by a feature fireplace, as well as the the master bedroom, walk in robe, en-suite and a guest room.

The upper level has a front deck that has incredible ocean views and a back entertaining deck that features the BBQ area and lap pool. The property also features an incredible surf check tower, accessible by a spiral stair case, as well as a great garage and gym.

What were some of the key considerations you made when proposing furniture options for Patty and his family?

For Patty and Mardi, function has to sit above aesthetic, so we suggested quality products, that are practical and durable, a reflection of their style and lifestyle.

Can you tell us a bit more about the kitchen and why you chose those particular GlobeWest pieces?

The island bench stools for kitchen and office station were the perfect pieces to compliment the amazing cabinetry work.

How did you find a style and balance that represents their beach-side family lifestyle with their busy careers?

Moggs Creek and this home is where they love to be. We absolutely factored this in when coming up with concepts and options. Patty and Mardi are relaxed and no fuss, which made working with them the absolute best. We only wanted to put forward options that they would love and that would work with their lifestyles, while making it family friendly.

This is where quality pieces were important and less is more came into play. We also worked with Flic and Georges personalities and interests to design the concepts for their rooms so they would truly love them.

Please tell us about some of your favourite GlobeWest pieces?

The half circle mirrors for above the chested draws in the walk-in robe. They provide a modern and original spin to the space. We also sourced a beautiful buffet and lamps that added so much style to the simplest of spaces.

Patty, what’s your favourite part of the home and why?

Spending time in the sitting room overlooking the ocean which is adjacent to wood fireplace.

Can you tell us a bit more about each room and why you chose these particular GlobeWest pieces?

Patty loves GlobeWest and their pieces. They are classic, high quality and original. The pool deck furniture from GlobeWest are perfect for the space, offering a fresh and cosmopolitan vibe. They were simple pieces that brought so much life to the space.

Patty, what’s your favourite GlobeWest piece in your home, and what do you love about it?

The Ossa oval dining table and chairs. Super easy to look after and keep clean. I love the shadow line with how it sits on the timber deck as the white really pops against our charred timber cladding.
